Scammers have moved to where we spend most of our time: our phones. A few habits make a huge difference.
1. Never share an OTP
No bank, delivery company or government office will ask for your OTP. If someone does, it is a scam.
2. Don't approve payment requests you don't recognise
On UPI, you never need to enter your PIN to receive money. A request asking for your PIN is a request to take money.
3. Install apps only from official stores
Apps sent as files on chat can take control of your phone. Stick to official app stores.
4. Turn on two-factor authentication
Add a second step to your email, social media and banking apps. It stops most account takeovers.
5. Report scams quickly
If you lose money, act fast. Report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call the helpline 1930.
When in doubt, hang up and call your bank using the number printed on your card.
